KASSEBAUM REUNION SCHEDULE

 

Friday, June 21

 

Several people who arrived early checked out the Emma Chase Friday Night Music in Cottonwood Falls.

  • Open group of musicians & listeners who gather in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas for free jam sessions/open mikes.

 

       General Information - EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT!  (THIRD FRIDAY: Country-Folk-Bluegrass – Acoustic) 


       TIME: 7:30 - 10:00 (can come-n-go) 

       PLACE – either:
       INDOORS at Prairie PastTimes-Flint Hills Arts & Crafts Store 220 1/2 Broadway, Cottonwood Falls; or                 O
UTDOORS (weather permitting) in front of Symphony in the Flint Hills Gallery & Gift Shop

Saturday, June 22

THE MAIN EVENTS

  ~5:00 - 6:30 p.m.  Refreshments at Nancy's farm.  (The farm is about 25-30 minutes from Council Grove.)

​

      7:00 p.m. - ~ 9:30 p.m.   Reunion at the Methodist church in Burdick.  (Burdick is about 5 miles from                                                           Nancy's farm.)

​

                                 The Brookville Hotel (http://www.brookvillehotel.com) served their famous fried chickent                                     for the meal.  Pies came from the Durham Cafe.

​

THE PROGRAM 

 

#1 – Welcome from Nancy

 

#2 -  Thanks and Announcements (Susan Hattan)

 

#3 – Presentation to Mike Torrey as the “Biggest Loser” in the 2019 NCAA Basketball Pool (Mike Horak)

 

#4 – Cowboy poem (Ron Wilson)

 

#5 – Limericks (Kay Sharp declared “Grand Champion” in absentia.)  Other presentations by Susan Hattan and Alan Ott

 

#6 – Musical presentation by Buffy & John of song written for the occasion

 

#7 – Announcement by musician Annie Wilson that attendees may pick up complementary copies of a        “Songs of the Kansas Flint Hills” CD

 

#8 – Video message from Ann Shirley

 

#9 – Memory from Nancy Briani  (Read by Susan)

 

#10 – Presentation of gifts from C-SPAN by Rob Stoddard

#11 - "Open Mic"

#12 – Announcement that we are making a reunion tribute to a charity of Nancy’s choice.  Details to be sent after the reunion.  (Susan) [Note:  the chosen charity is the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research – Grand Central Station – PO Box 4777, New York, NY 1 10163-4777)

                                                    

 

OTHER ACTIVITIES


   10 a.m. - ~ 1 p.m.       Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve  -  Mike Horak arranged for a formal tour and                                                    lunch at the Old Schoolhouse following the tour.  Brian Obermeyer conducted the                                                tour.

​

                                                 Gwen Shirkey catered lunch for those on the tallgrass prairie tour who wanted it. The                                           lunch  included  Kansas beef sandwiches, homemade chips, a pesto pasta salad,                                                   dessert and drinks.  The cost per lunch was $12 per person, payable to Mike Horak.

                          [Council Grove is about 20 minutes from the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.]

          Abilene –

​

 Eisenhower Presidential Library.   Abilene is about a 90-minute drive from the Tallgrass Prairie                 National Preserve.  Admission was free to reunion attendees who visited on June 21, 22, or 23.

​
