I am very sorry to say I cannot come. 😐
I have a client meeting in Portland and my presentation is 830 am SUNDAY! Yes. Not a typo. Group of physicians. So I looked at all options and no way for me to get from KS to Oregon by then. I am so so sorry.

I’m sorry to cancel last minute. We had severe thunderstorms today, and as a result, my mom’s basement is flooded. She’s 85 and lives by herself. So, I need to head her way. I did write a limerick for the senator, but the website was acting up so I’m including it here. I hope you all have an amazing weekend. Please give the senator a big hug for me!

Some of my favorite memories—how to choose ‘cuz I have so many.
Our great office parties. Thanks to Greg for starting the limericks. My favorite was one Guy did for Dwight—I wish I had a copy. Loved the Oscar nominations of Meg and Greg. Also Mary Elizabeth doing Tina Turner for Dan’s farewell party—Bollin on the River.
Photos: Larry Shainman and NLK doing American Gothic using the fireplace tools. A photo of NLK with Manute Bol. A photo with a tall intern who in is smiling and looking at the camera while NLK is looking up to him—maybe giving him a lecture?
Nancy answering a letter to an Asst Secy of a brand of the military. He had said her eyes glazed over when he tried to discuss a defense issue with her. NLK had never met with him. When Briani typed the response, she said hated to type Warmest regards. Then NLK handwrote “Luke” in front of Warmest.
Pat Johnson who was always so gracious and kind to visitors sometimes needed to vent and would come to tell me she should have told some difficult person to “Bugger off”. That always made me laugh.
Another time NLK wanted to keep a doctor’s appt. in Wichita on a Friday. Phone calls went back and forth which Gwen fielded and a “life pear” was arranged. The “life pear” was not needed and Baker called Mrs. Landon to let NLK know. Mrs. Landon later said that he had called to thank Nancy for the fruit. This is endearing to me.
Somewhere I have a copy of the letter Horak wrote to a woman who had written to complain about the glare the dashboard made on her windshield. Mike wrote a response about an organization named G.L.A.R.E. that was working to solve this problem. I loved his “letter” and wish I know where it was so that I share it with you.
Kennedy always had many interns, and there was a line into the hall of interns waiting to take a photo w/ Kennedy and his wife on the balcony. NLK got in the line, too, and the Kennedys were quite surprised when she showed up on the balcony.
At some point NLK decided that she smiled too much in photos and started using what we called the Frog Grin.
On the last day of the office, Briani, Susan and I were the only ones left. We made a ceremony out of cutting the cord to the FAX machine. Then I was alone and getting a little teary when a workman came by to ask something about the computers. That stopped the tears and I left the office for the last time. My Mary Tyler Moore moment!
Plus so much more -- Ann

I waited until the last possible moment to see what would happen with my travel, and I really regret that I will not be able to attend. My current job requires a lot of travel, and am now confirmed that I won’t be able to make it. Would be so great to see everybody.

Looks like a great crowd -- sure wish I could be there. & cheers to all -- Kassebombers have a gift for having a good time, I think, and I’m sure the reunion will be no exception.

This is Gelaine Bailey Williams. I just wanted to send a note expressing a few thoughts.
Thanks for all the effort and energy that has been expended in preparing for a very special Kassebaum Reunion weekend. I am so sorry that I am not able to attend.
I did, however, want to share that today is my birthday and as I reflect on the many experiences that have impacted my life trajectory, indeed working for Senator Kassebaum ranks high on the list. It was an honor and privilege to work in her Prairie Village office with Mike, Sandy and later with Connie. I am truly grateful for the opportunity afforded to me in the early years of my career. Of course, Phyllis Savage Lynn played an integral role in linking us together and I am forever grateful to her, as well.
I have always appreciated Senator Kassebaum Baker s' life example of public/political service and surely miss her presence on Capitol Hill.
A quick update for everyone:
I now live in New York, where my husband is Senior Pastor at Convent Avenue Baptist Church in Harlem.
I currently serve as Assistant Professor/Academic Counselor and Coordinator of Career Services at SUNY Westchester Community College where I have worked for 10 years.
We have one son, Jesse, III who is a rising sophomore at North Carolina A & T State University pursing Mechanical Engineering.
And my husband and I will celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary in August. I'll try to send Phyllis the throwback wedding picture with Senator Kassebaum and Mike in it. Also, let Nancy Briani know that every year, I put the hand made ornament that she gave us as a wedding gift, on our Christmas tree. In addition, I also include the US Senate ornament when trimming our tree as a reminder of years gone by.
Please extend special greetings to Senator Kassebaum and the Kassebaum gang...
Best Wishes to all!
